(B) Project text

Ref. DWG A-101

The pavilion is a single gesture: a continuous ribbon of precast concrete fins that rises from the plaza and folds over the exhibition hall. Each fin is 120 mm thick and 600 mm deep, set at a 900 mm pitch, and rotated in small increments to follow the path of the low Nordic sun.

Inside, the light changes every hour. In the morning it falls in hard parallel stripes; by afternoon the fins close up and the hall turns soft and even, ready for works on paper.

Structure

The fins act as both façade and primary structure. They carry a timber roof cassette spanning 18 m, which keeps the hall free of columns and lets the floor plan be rearranged for each exhibition.
